HARTSVILLE, S.C. _ The fourth annual Chili Cook-off takes place Saturday at the Good Living Marketplace from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Burry Park.
This year’s Chili Cook-off features local restaurants and amateur chefs showcasing their culinary talents and vying for the title of “Best Chili” in town.
Lenora Lefew, executive director of Hartsville Downtown Development Association, sponsor of the event with the City of Hartsville, said the amateur cook-off division is new this year.
“So far competing (in the amateur cook-off) are the Hartsville Fire Department, the Hartsville Police Department and the Hartsville Polar Bear Cycling Club,” Lefew said.
Check in for participants is 10 a.m. Set up is between 10 and 10:30 a.m. and the voting begins at 11 a.m.
Community participants can vote once for their favorite chili in the amateur and the restaurant cook-offs by purchasing a sample cup of chili. For the amateur division the sample cups will cost 25 cents, and for the restaurant division, the cost will be 50 cents. The participants with the most votes will win trophies.
Two “People’s Choice” awards will be give for first and second place in each division. Trophies will be awarded.
Today, Jan. 4, is the deadline for entering both divisions. The fee for amateurs to enter the competition is $25. The fee for restaurants is $50.
The fee includes booth site, 4 oz. sample cups, spoons, and crackers.
