HARTSVILLE, S.C.  _ Get ready to make a bid.

The Women’s League of Hartsville is celebrating 25 years of giving with its annual live and silent auctions Feb. 4 at the Hartsville Country Club. In keeping with their 25th anniversary of giving, the theme is Silver.

Members of the Women’s League met Thursday night at Lulu’s to make final preparations for their February fundraiser. This year’s proceeds from the auction will benefit Carolina Kids and Hartsville Downtown Development Association, said auction chairman Tammy Epps. The auction will take place at the Hartsville Country Club.

Tickets are $40 for non-member individuals and $25 for members. Couples tickets are $80 for non-members and $50 for member couples. The fee to become a member of the Women’s League of Hartsville is $35 a year. Tickets can be purchased at Lulu's, Minnie's, or Burry Bookstore.

There will also be live music, heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer. Hartsville Mayor Mel Pennington and Lenora Lefew, executive director of Hartsville Downtown Development Association, will serve as auctioneers.

Items to be auctioned are still being solicited. Among the items that are already set to go on the auction block are an autographed baseball signed by Houston Astro pitcher and Hartsville native Jordan Lyles, an evening for a party for six at Oak Manor Inn, Univertsity of South Carolina basketball tickets, a USC football tailgating package and a Kindle Fire. Also, Coker College is donating the use of The Drengalen House for a party, Epps said.

In addition to auction items, Epps said the group is asking for monetary donations to help raise as much as possible for both causes.

Major sponsors are Progress Energy, Sonoco Products Co. And Mutual Savings.

To date, the auctions have generated more than $175,000 for Darlington County-based organizations.

Epps said their mission includes civic work, monthly educational and social meetings and functions.

Supporting contributions are also welcomed for those not able to attend.
