Farm bureau donates to Hartsville Soup Kitchen

Judy Barefoot, Women’s Committee chairperson for Darlington County Farm Bureau, presented Pat Sadauskas of the Hartsville Soup Kitchen with a check from the Darlington County Farm Bureau in recognition of Farm Bureau’s Food Check-Out Week Feb. 21-27. The week’s focus is on helping Americans learn how to stretch their grocery bill dollars with healthy, nutritious food.

By their contribution, the bureau wanted to help make sure that visitors to the soup kitchen also receive healthy and nutritious meals. In the background and ready to serve the day’s meal are members of Hartsville Advent Christian Church. With the continued economic squeeze, many Americans remain concerned that the cost of a healthy diet is out of reach, but according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture study, the cost of eating healthy hasn’t changed as much as some less-healthy alternatives.
