If you have kids who want to learn to cook, today’s recipes are easy to prepare and kid-friendly. They will require adult supervision because they call for using the oven and/or knives for chopping.
The Hamburger Fake Cake sounds crazy but the kids will love it and deciding on the frosting flavor for the cookies will let your kids use their imagination.
Build some memories with your kids while teaching them some needed kitchen skills.
Hamburger Fake Cake
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Instant mashed potatoes (enough for 4 servings)
Catsup and mustard in squirt bottles
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. With a fork, (or very clean hands, if they want) mix beef, onion, water, salt, soy sauce and pepper in a bowl. Place beef mixture in an ungreased pie pan and shape into a mound like a cake. Bake 45 minutes. Five minutes before the hamburger is done, prepare the instant mashed potatoes. Remove hamburger from the oven. Carefully lift to a platter with a couple of large spatulas. “Frost” the hamburger with mashed potatoes using a straight-edged spatula. Decorate the top with catsup and mustard.
