MYRTLE BEACH -- With the click of a mouse and touch of a button, you can now keep tabs on what your elderly or disabled loved one is up to, if he or she lives independently.
As part of the new RestAssured program, offered now in Myrtle Beach by ResCare HomeCare, customers are able to use remote-controlled cameras, a webcam station, and a series of motion sensors to see where a loved on is inside the home, and if he or she may need help.
It's all over an internet connection, and the person in the home can communicate over a webcam portal with family members and in-home care professionals if need be.
"We're all so busy, every day with our daily lives," said Tisha Baker with ResCare. "This is a way you can go on, check with your mother and father, and see how they're doing."
You can also use the webcam portal, which includes a touch-screen monitor for the client, to send messages and reminders into the home.
"The reminders will pop up there (on the touch screen), or you can play a slideshow of pictures of the grandkids for them," said Baker. "It's really amazing technology," she said.
But don't think for one moment that this kind of 21st century digital wizardry means those in the in-home care business are out of work.
"(The system) can't drive them places, so that's where the aid comes in," said Baker. "Mom and dad may need that extra little help bathing, grooming, getitng dressed, and going grocery shopping or getting out of the house and going to lunch. It doesn't replace that one-on-one companionship."
