Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Uneedia Echoles Deas celebrated 70 years of marriage. The couple was married October 1, 1939, in Florence, South Carolina.
A 70th anniversary program and dinner was hosted by their children on Saturday, October 3, 2009, at the Progressive Church Family Life Center, their church for nearly 50 years. The program consisted of their favorite songs, scriptures, remarks and expressions of love rendered by their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends. There were approximately 200 family members and guest.
Mr. Deas worked in custodial support with Florence Public Schools, and retired after 20 years of service. Mrs. Deas, his lovely wife and soul mate worked as a domestic engineer, raising and nurturing their children.
Mr. and Mrs. Deas attribute their marriage tenure to being faithful to God, and living a life that pleases him. Their philosophy is to always treat others with respect, and be a person who keeps their word.
They enjoy going to church, gardening, growing flowers, reading, and playing checkers. Their personal testimony is that God is good, and has always stood by their side. They are very thankful to God for allowing them to weather many of life’s storms, and together age gracefully.
The couple’s blessed posterity consists of twelve children, of whom one is deceased, forty grandchildren, and thirty-three great grandchildren.
