LORIS - During the month of November, American Diabetes Month, the Erectile Dysfunction Institute (Edi) is encouraging all men diagnosed with diabetes and experiencing erectile dysfunction (ED) to ask their physician about screenings for cardiovascular disease.
According to a news release from Loris Healthcare System, DD is often associated with vascular dysfunction, or impaired blood flow. If a patient is experiencing ED, it can be speculated that the impaired blood flow could be problematic in other areas of the body, especially the heart. Men with diabetes are three to four times more likely to have a vascular disease leading to strokes and heart attacks than men who are not diabetic.
The causes and effective treatments for ED will be the focus of a health information session on Thursday, November 19 at The Center for Health & Fitness at 3207 Casey Street in Loris. This special session will be hosted by Glenn Gangi, MD, board certified urologist with Adult & Pediatric Urology Center of the Carolinas, and Loris Healthcare System.
This free seminar will address the causes of ED and the range of treatment options now available to men. The seminar will also include discussion on the issues and treatments related to male incontinence.
The amount of medical data concerning ED’s relationship to diabetes and coronary heart disease makes it critical for both physicians and patients to be educated about the causes of ED. Not only should diabetic patients with ED be screened for coronary heart disease, they should be treated by a multidisciplinary medical team who address many health and lifestyle issues that diabetes presents.
