May is National Brain Tumor Awareness Month.
A special group of brain tumor survivors, and others who have lost loved ones to tumors, are a part of the Florence Neurosurgery and Spine Brain Tumor Support Group.
The support group meets about every six weeks at Florence Neurosurgery and Spine, which is located at 1204. E. Cheves Street. The group's next meeting is Thursday, May 14, at 7:00 PM.
The support group is for anyone who has been affected by the diagnosis of a brain tumor. The group gives these individuals time to get together, meet others in a similar situation, provide support and information.
The meeting also has speakers that discuss needs unique to anyone affected by a brain tumor, whether it is the patient, family or friend. Members also have access to the doctors of Florence Neurosurgery and Spine.
Becky Simmons is the Support Group Coordinator. Chris Lane, a brain tumor survivor, is a very active member of the group.
