Rosenwald Elementary School in Society Hill planned a special day Wednesday just for mothers. It was the second annual Mother’s Day Brunch.
The second- and third-grade students entertained their mothers in song, dance and words of why they are so loved.
Based on the book, “My Mom” by Anthony Brown, the students incorporated all phases of their curriculum in preparing for their presentation said their teacher, Amber Hutchins, District Teacher of Year for Darlington County. She said the students used math to calculate how much the event would cost, P.E. to prepare for their dances, reading to prepare for their story and so on.
Principal Kimberly Mason said the event was a learning experience for the students. It was one the students took great pride in doing.
Hutchins and her fellow teachers, Leslie Starling and Kelly Devoe, coordinated the event that was presented in the school gymnasium.
Putting aside their school uniforms for a day, the students dressed in their Sunday best.
One after one, the students took their turn at the podium to tell their mothers why they are so special. In addition to their performance and words of love spoken to each and every mom, the students had the opportunity to eat with their mothers before resuming their school schedule.
What did the students have to say to their mothers?
