Katherine Brandon McLean and Richard Crane Ryan, Jr. were united in marriage on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at six o'clock in the evening at Lowndes Grove Plantation in Charleston, with the Reverend Samuel Putnam Warner officiating. Immediately following the ceremony, the bride's parents hosted a reception at the plantation.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Sartor McLean of Lumberton, NC, and the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. William Vance Singletary of Durham, NC, and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Dickson McLean of Lumberton, NC. In 1999, she was presented by the Terpsichorean Club of Raleigh, NC as a state debutante and was selected to be an Assistant Leader. The bride is a graduate of Duke University and the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University and is an attorney with Maynard Cooper & Gale PC in Birmingham.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Crane Ryan of Florence and the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lawford Moxley and the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Louis Ryan Jr., all of Chicago, IL. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama and is a financial analyst with Compass Bank in Birmingham, AL.
The bride was given in marriage by her father and was attended by Miss Boyd A. Phillips of Washington, D.C. and Miss Elizabeth F. Yarborough of Los Angeles, CA as maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Taylor H. Bandyke of Atlanta, GA; Miss Katherine E. Bradley of Saint Joseph, MO; Mrs. Cori R. Clifford of Chicago, IL; Mrs. Sarah C. Dunleavy of Indianapolis, IN; Mrs. Christine W. Grand of Shanghai, China; Miss Rory J. Jelks of Birmingham, AL; Mrs. Megan G. Lawrence and Dr. Sarah A. Rich of Houston, TX; Mrs. Beth M. McLean of Greensboro, NC; Miss Lucy L. Miller of Bethel, NC; Mrs. Mani N. Patel and Mrs. Rachel H. Peterson of Raleigh, NC; Miss K. Gately Ryan of Charleston; and Mrs. Tiffany R. Stapleton of Mobile, AL. Miss Skylar P. Stapleton of Mobile served as the flower girl.
The groom chose his father to serve as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Ashley J. Berry of Rock Hill; Mr. Brian S. Brown, Mr. Luther P. Crull III, Mr. J. Brooks Harris, Mr. Jason W. Keene, Mr. J. Robert Simmons III, and Mr. Matthew P. Teague, all of Birmingham, AL; Dr. Dalton S. McLean of Greensboro, NC; Mr. Stephen D. McQueen, Dr. J. Michael Morgan IV, Mr. Kevin I. Smith, and Mr. Walker H. Willcox, all of Florence; Mr. W. Murphy Stapleton of Mobile, AL; Mr. Stephen P. Stokes Jr. of Columbia; and Mr. Michael C. Word of Jacksonville Beach, FL. Mr. W. Murphy Stapleton, Jr. of Mobile served as ring bearer.
The reader was Dr. Lori B. Blackley of Lumberton, NC. Greeters were Mr. and Mrs. Rodney E. Miller of Birmingham, AL and Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Ward III of Austin, TX. Miss Marla P. Singletary of Raleigh, NC served as guest register attendant. Music was provided by the Carolina Trio and Mr. William S. Caudill, bagpiper.
Following a honeymoon trip to Bora Bora, the couple will reside in Birmingham.
