Ashley Victoria Carr, Charles Colston Sims Exchange Wedding Vows.
Miss Ashley Victoria Carr of Dillon, South Carolina, and Charles Colston Sims of Greer, South Carolina, were united in marriage on the evening of Saturday, the first of August, 2009, at Main Street United Methodist Church in Dillon. Mr. Roger Charles Sims, father of the groom, and Mr. David Michael Rogers, uncle of the groom, performed the six o'clock wedding.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Howard Carr of Dillon. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Leon Power Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Elam Carlton Carr, junior of Dillon. The bride is a 2009 cum laude graduate of Wofford College and attends the Medical University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy in Charleston.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Charles Sims of Greer. He is the grandson of the Doctors Francis Simon and Josephine Young Sullivan of Greer, and Mrs. Angelyn Sims Price of Fort Valley, Georgia, and the late Mr. Charles Winfrey Sims. The groom is a summa cum laude graduate of Clemson University Calhoun Honors College and attends the Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine in Charleston.
The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her parents. She wore a strapless lace gown by designer Renella De Fina. The gown had a silk taffeta underlay and featured a modified sheath silhouette that was slightly fitted. The gown's overlay featured a French alencon lace floral design made exclusively for Renella de Fina. The bodice featured a softly ruffled lace empire top which was accented by a brooch given to her by her paternal grandmother. The cathedral length tulle veil featured a blusher and was lined in alencon lace that began at the fingertips and tapered out around the edges. She wore a beautiful white pearl necklace with matching bracelet and earrings given to her by her parents. She carried a handkerchief around her bouquet that was carried by her mother on her wedding day. In one of the bride's shoes was an old English pence; in the other shoe was a penny from 2009. The bridal bouquet was made of white roses, orchids, calla lilies, freesia, Asiatic lilies, and hydrangea. The bouquet was accented with yellow snapdragon and pink roses. A special silk taffeta rose made from her mother's wedding gown was included in the bouquet.
Miss Marian Joanna Carr, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids included Mrs. Patricia Jordan Fast, friend of the bride, of Charleston, SC; Miss Patricia Diane Holder, friend of the bride, of Dillon, SC; Mrs. McCall Wallace Kurland, friend of the bride, of Bradenton, FL; Miss Jamie Lee Nichols, friend of the bride, of Charlottesville, VA; Miss Emily Margaret O'Hanlan, friend of the bride, of Murrells Inlet, SC; Miss Christine Louise Reynolds, friend of the bride, of Greenville, SC; and Miss Katherine Louise Rogers, cousin of the groom, of Greer, SC. The bridesmaids wore yellow silk dresses and carried bouquets of yellow lilies, pink roses, white freesia, and green hydrangea. Honorary bridesmaids included Miss Mary Ann Atkins, friend of the bride, of Dillon, SC; Miss Francis Owens Glenn, friend of the bride, of Columbia, SC; Miss Courtney Virginia Jordan, friend of the bride, of Dillon, SC; and Miss Catherine Ruth Wetzig, friend of the bride, of Colorado Springs, CO. The honorary bridesmaids wore coral silk chiffon dresses. Their wristlets contained yellow roses and green coffee berries.
The groom's father served as best man. Groomsmen included Mr. Andrew Graham Baker, friend of the groom, of Greenville, SC; Mr. William Howard Carr, junior, brother of the bride, of Dillon, SC; Mr. Matthew Steven Gillespie, friend of the groom, of Greer, SC; Mr. James Ryan Henson, friend of the groom, of Greer, SC; Mr. Christopher Lee Hewitt, friend of the groom, of Middleton, CT; Mr. Jonathan Whilden McCullough, friend of the groom, of Greer, SC; Mr. Caleb Michael Rogers, cousin of the groom, of Greenville, SC; and Mr. William Ryan Tonnsen, friend of the groom, of Greer, SC. The groom and groomsmen were attired in black tuxedos with boutonnieres of miniature calla lilies.
Wedding greeters included Dr. John Owens Bumgardner of Dillon, SC; Dr. Douglas Floyd Kelly of Dillon, SC; Mr. Alexander Dorn Mark of Dillon, SC; and Reverend Michael Ellis Rouse of Dillon,SC.
Reception greeters included Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Myers Jordan of Dillon, SC and Dr. and Mrs. Nigel Alan Roderick Watt of Florence, SC.
The wedding music was presented by Mr. Robert Watson Thompson, pianist and organist; Mrs. Elizabeth Hunter Jordan, harpist; and Miss Katherine Louise Rogers, vocalist.
The reception, hosted by the bride's parents, was held at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, SC. The couple enjoyed a wedding trip to Tennessee. The couple will reside in Charleston, South Carolina.
