The City of Florence and Florence Downtown Development Corporation are presenting a new concert series.

Florence After Five will take place the first Friday of each month during May, June, July, August, and September.

According to a news release from the Florence Downtown Development Corporation, each Florence After Five event will feature a live band, and food and beverages will be available for purchase. Admission is free and open to people of all ages.

Florence After Five will take place from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at The Plaza, which is the space across from Central United Methodist Church in downtown Florence.

The series kicks off Friday, May 1 with The Woodys, a popular local cover band. The community is encouraged to come out and enjoy an evening of music and fun. The May 1 concert is underwritten by Victor’s Bistro and Garden Room. Other sponsors include Crown Beverages, Roche Carolina, First Reliance Bank, Harrington Vision Center, Dilmar Oil, and Pepsi.

“We are so excited about this concert series,” says Pete Mazzaroni, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Florence Downtown Development Corporation. “This is an event that truly everybody in Florence can attend. Come by yourself, bring your friends, your family, your kids – it doesn’t matter. There’s something for everyone!”

"I certainly envision people bringing chairs or blankets to spread out and enjoy the show,” said Ed Love, Vice-Chair of the FDDC and Florence After Five Event Organizer. “We’ll have food and drinks there that people can buy, so it’s a great way to entertain the entire family. The admission is free, and in this economy, everybody can afford that!”

“This is just another example of the progression and growth that we’re seeing in Downtown Florence. We’ve come a long way and we just keep growing,” stated Mazzaroni.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Florence Downtown Development Corporation. The Florence Downtown Development Corporation (FDDC) is a non-profit organization devoted to revitalizing and restoring civic pride in Downtown Florence. Founded in 2002, FDDC is a quasi-public organization and a South Carolina Main Street member.
