Ilona Smithkin will be following up her magnificent performance in the Long Lash Cabaret with a pair of oil painting workshops. She will be offering a landscapes oil painting class from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. the week of Oct, 27 - 31. The following week, Nov. 3 - 7, she will be offering a still life oil painting class from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Each workshop costs $135.

Other events going on at Black Creek Arts include a holiday clay class with Michelle Morris. Let her help your children make those perfect gifts for the ones they love by taking the holiday clay class in November on Mondays from 4 - 5:15 p.m. Michelle will lead a class for students ages 3 -13. The first class will meet on Nov. 3. On Mondays from 5:30 - 6:45 p.m., Morris will lead a class for students ages 14 - 18. The first class will meet on Nov. 3. No previous experience working with clay is needed for these classes.
Morris will be offering mixed media art classes to children and adults in November. The children's class will meet on Wednesdays from 4 - 5:15 p.m., beginning on Nov. 5. The adult class will meet on Wednesdays from 5:30 - 6:45 p.m., also beginning on Nov. 5.
In November, BCAC welcomes special programs from The South Carolina Humanities Council, critically acclaimed authors DeVa Gantt, and local artist Patz Fowle.
Deb and Val Gantt are DeVa Gantt. Co-authors of “A Silent Ocean Away,” Deb and Val Gantt will be at the Black Creek Arts Center in Hartsville for a book signing and luncheon on Nov. 12, from 12-2 p.m. Admission to the event is $20. This includes lunch and a copy of “A Silent Ocean Away.” This event is co-sponsored by Black Creek Arts Council and Burry Bookstore. Bizzell's Food & Spirits is catering the event.
The Darlington Library will host Patz Fowle for a reading of her new book, “Remember When,” on Nov. 22, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. The reading will be followed by an interactive demonstration with Patz that will result in attendees being able to take home their very own Patz-style drawings. This event will be free to the public and fun for all ages.
The Humanities Aloud: Archaeologist Dr. Lesley Drucker will deliver a lecture entitled Exploring Multiculturalism Through Dance on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 5:30 p.m. in Coker College's the Black Box Theater, located in the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
Hosted by Black Creek Arts Council, Drucker's appearance is funded by a Humanities Aloud Grant from the South Carolina Humanities Council.
“On behalf of the Artisans of the South Carolina Cotton Trail, Black Creek Arts Council would like to congratulate Anne Baldwin and Vicky McLain for their recent success in the State Fair Art Competition,” Douglas said.
Anne Baldwin won second place in the Amateur Photography Division.
Vicky McLain won the Guy F. Lipscomb, Jr. Award for Merit in the Professional Division.
“BCAC would also like to congratulate ASCCT members Heidi Bond, Pollie Bristow, Suzanne Muldrow and Anne Baldwin for having works juried into the Pee Dee Regional Art Competition at the Florence Museum,” Douglas added
.
Other works by all of these artists are currently on display in the gallery at Black Creek.
This December, Black Creek Arts Council will again host its Christmas Shoppe. The Christmas Shoppe will kickoff on Thursday, Dec. 4, with an opening reception and sale from 5 to 7 p.m. The Christmas Shoppe will be open on Friday, Dec. 5, from 12 to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Come and join us and our fantastic vendors at the arts center to get wonderful one-of-a-kind gifts for those on your Christmas list,” Douglas said.
