School of Dance plans recital Saturday
The Emmalyn Davis School of Dance presents, “The Wonderful World of Disney.” The public is invited to attend the recital, dedicated to our audience, which will be at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on May 24, in the C.D. Joyner Auditorium. Students of all ages will be performing in ballet, tap and jazz. Dancers will be portraying Disney’s musical characters, such as Cinderella, Snow White, Pinocchio, Pocahontas, Mary Pippins, Peter Pan and Wendy, Alice in Wonderland and The Little Mermaid. Mickey’s Birthday party will be celebrated on stage. Our guest attendees will include Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse and Goofy, among others. The popular culture of Waltz Disney’s Music will be performed by senior, intermediate and junior dancers. The popular Cheetah Girls will dance as well.
Mullins Church of God plans Memorial Day service
Mullins Church of God, 1001 Sandy Bluff Road, will have a special Memorial Day service at 6 p.m. on May 25. The service will be directed by the Senior Adult Ministry and dedicated to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, with special recognition of those who have given their lives in the defense of our freedom and the preservation of peace. Outreach Victory Church plans special service

Alzheimer’s Association to meet in Nursing Center
Mullins Nursing Center, in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association, will be host to the group’s monthly meeting from 2-3 p.m. on May 27 in the center’s Family Room. Facilitator is Sheri Fleming, LBSW. Meetings are confidential, informative, educational and give others a time to share. Union Baptist Church sets community fun day

Learning Center to offer summer camps
The St. James Learning Center will offer a free summer camp program to youth ages 4-16 years old.
Camps will begin on June 9 and run through Aug. 2, Monday- Friday. Daily hours will be 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
Youth attending this camp will participate in workshops to enhance their reading, math, public speaking skills, and have fun with arts and crafts. Our fitness program will appeal to youths of all ages and gender and for those interested, flag football, volleyball and basketball will be offered. The spaces are limited. Registration forms can be picked up at St. James AME Church, 5333 South State Highway 41, beginning May 21, from 3-8 p.m. For information, call Rev. Pringle at (843) 817-4428. Parents must provide transportation to and from the summer camp program.
Bryant family plans reunion at local restaurant
The 2008 Bryant Family Reunion for the descendants of David and Sally Bryant will be on June 8 in the Dry Dock Restaurant on U.S. Highway 76 between Marion and Mullins. Arrival time will be at 12:30 for fellowship and pictures. Mealtime will follow at 1:30 pm. School of Music sets summer camp dates
Marion County School of Music and Marion County Private School are offering their annual Summer Camp for the ninth year. This year, campers, ages three through 16, will go to the Little Pee Dee State Park Monday through Wednesday each week, where the children will be able to enjoy nature hikes, picnics, canoeing, boating, fishing, doing nature crafts and enjoy scouting lessons. On Thursdays and Fridays, the students will take music, riding, ballet and karate lessons at the school in Marion. This year the children will produce a dinner theatre performance about the 1950s and Elvis Presley.
There are two camp sessions available. The first session begins June 9 and ends July 3, all day. The second session will begin July 7, and end Aug. 2, the first session is filling up fast, so make reservations soon. Rose Massey, Director of Marion County School of Music, said students will have guests joining them. Natalia Voskerchiants of St. Petersburg, Russia, and Barbara Suhrstedt of Boston, Mass., will teach campers Russian. Children will learn the Russian alphabet, songs, simple Russian conversation see slides, videos, pictures and learn about Russia. Natalia is a teacher at the Stravinsky School of Music in Lomonosov, Russia, a suburb of St. Petersburg. Barbara is an accomplished pianist, having traveled to many countries and performed classical piano.
“Both ladies have already promised to perform at a classical concert, which will be scheduled at the Rosewood Manor,” Massey said. Anyone interested or needing information about the school, may call (843) 423-8166.
Ushers’ anniversary planned at Pleasant Grove on June 1
Pastor A.C. Robinson and the Ushers’ Ministry of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church invites the public to their 72nd Ushers’ Anniversary event at 4 p.m. on June 1. The Rev. Truman Tart, of Mt. Rona Baptist Church, Effingham, will bring the gospel message. The church is at 1333 Penderboro Road, Marion.
