In the spirit of Christmas giving Our Shepherd Lutheran Church’s 90 plus members have gathered gifts for children in foster homes so their Christmas may be a little brighter.

In past years the WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) group at the church located at 1410 BoBo Newsom Highway, has set up an angel tree for families in need during the Christmas season.

This year they decided to do something different and give to Darlington County’s foster children.

With the help of Merri Lunn, Department of Social Services coordinator, the entire church collected and distributed books, crayons and coloring books, toys, toiletries, diapers and other gifts. From the donations, they were able to make 67 bags of toys plus 10 packages of diapers to give out.

“We are a small church, but our heart isn’t. We feel every child deserves a happy, merry Christmas,” said WELCA president Donna Anderson.
