What I listen to: Contemporary Jazz, specifically found on my Sirius FM Watercolors XM Radio Station.
Last concert attended: It was the Roberta Flack Concert at the opening of the FMU Performing Arts Center. Prior to that, it was a concert sponsored by the Florence Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. at the Florence Little Theatre featuring gospel contemporary jazz artist Ben Tankard.
Song that inspires you: “God’s Been Just That Good,” by Kirk Whalum (saxophonist) and Lala Hathaway (vocalist).
All-time favorites (at least three): “Blessed Assurance” a rendition by Kirk Whalum from the Gospel According to Jazz.
“New Day on the Horizon,” by Areatha Franklin, from her latest CD.
“Linus and Lucy” from the Best of David Benoit by David Benoit.
Favorite composer/artist and why: Kirk Whalum, he’s able to combine contemporary jazz with the gospel resulting in an upbeat, yet inspirational sound.
Genre I just don’t get: Probably hard rock, heavy metal, etc.
Artist I’d pay good money to hear in person: Kirk Whalum; I sincerely hope that one day he will come to the FMU Performing Arts Center!
