Myrtle Beach Convention Center Exhibit Hall

South Carolina’s Largest Garage Sale returns to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, with longer hours!  This year’s sale is 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 10, in the Exhibit Hall.  Online registration for vendor spaces begins on July 26 at 8:00 a.m. or in person at the Convention Center from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  After July 26, vendors can continue to register online around the clock or from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. weekdays in the administrative offices at the Convention Center.  Vendor spaces are $50.00 each.  The two booth sizes are a 10-by-15-foot exhibit hall space and an eight-by-15-foot entrance lobby or outside covered space.  Both sizes include an eight foot table and two chairs.  For more information, call Cathie Porter at 843-918-1235 or visit http://www.cityofmyrtlebeach.com/garagesale.html.

Citizens Police Academy Session 22

Applications accepted until 5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 28

Session begins Monday, September 12 

Applications are being accepted now for the 22nd Citizens Police Academy, which begins September 12.  Class meets each Monday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. for 10 weeks, with graduation on November 14.  Topics such as crime scene investigation, emergency vehicle operations and simulated firearms training are covered during the course.  Class members also ride and work with Myrtle Beach police officers and staff for a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement.  Applicants must be residents of Horry County and at least 21 years old.  A valid driver’s license, a criminal history check and a driver’s license background check are required.  Once accepted, applicants must attend at least eight of the 10 classes and complete at least 25 hours of ride-along and work-along experience to graduate.  Applications are available at the Ted C. Collins Law Enforcement Center, the Law Enforcement Center Annex on Mustang Street, or on-line at http://www.cityofmyrtlebeach.com/cpa.html, and must be received by 5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 28.  For more, contact Sgt. Whispering Pines Golf Course

The Annual Myrtle Beach Fire Department American Red Cross Fire Relief Fund Golf Classic is Saturday, August 20, at Whispering Pines Golf CourseAll proceeds go to assist the Coastal South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross Fire Relief Fund.  This fund helps local citizens get back on their feet after being affected by a home fire.  The tournament is limited to the first 32 teams.  Tournament fees are $240 for a team or $60 for a single, with fees including green fees, cart, gift bags, lunch and refreshments.  Deadline for registration is Saturday, August 12.  For information or to sign up, please contact Lieutenant Christian Sliker at 918-1221.

Franklin G. Burroughs – Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum 

The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum will exhibit Babar’s World Tour:  Original Paintings and Sketches by Laurent de Brunhoff through September 4.  The Art Museum will display 36 original illustrations from Babar’s World Tour.  The Coastal Carolina University’s Theatre Department is assisting with the design of vignettes for a creative interactive cultural experience for those attending.  The Art Museum will also spotlight nine of the 13 countries Babar’s World Tour visits.  Regular gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., Sunday.  Call 238-2510 or visit http://www.myrtlebeachartmuseum.org.
