COLUMBIA — A new exhibit at the S.C. Confederate Relic Room and Museum highlights the photographs of journalists who were killed during the Vietnam Conflict.

The exhibit is entitled “Requiem: By the Photographers Who Died in Vietnam and Indochina.”

It features 55 photographs taken by 23 different photojournalists who died or were reported missing while covering the conflict.

“A lot of these images are very powerful,” said Jami Cassidy, museum curator of exhibits. “It really shows a lot of what the soldiers were going through, in the mud, in the trenches, in the water and just dealing with all of the difficulties in Vietnam.”

A total of 135 photojournalists were killed or went missing in Vietnam and Indochina.

This year marks the 45th anniversary of the deployment of U.S. troops to Vietnam.

“We wanted to commemorate that with an exhibit,” Cassidy said.

The exhibit, from the George Eastman House, was first put together in 1997 and has since been traveling to museums across the country and internationally.

It will be on display at the museum in Columbia through May 29.
