MYRTLE BEACH - Katie’s Project has announced Gaston as the entertainment for their first annual black tie gala, Katie’s Prom, to be held September 19th, at the Grande Dunes Ocean Club.
Having toured with such entertainers as Marvin Gaye, Jesse Johnson, Teena Marie and Kool & The Gang just to name a few, Gaston is a multitalented band whose repertoire ranges from beach music to rock n’ roll! The group is composed of Jerry Reid, Quincy Huitt, Randy Hudson and William Fewell, a combination that ensures Katie’s Prom will be an event not to miss.
“After reviewing several entertainers from all over the east coast we chose Gaston, for their high-energy performance! This is the first major fundraiser for Katie’s Project and we want to give our guests an elegant but fun evening that will be something to remember,” said President & Executive Director of Katie’s Project, Kathy Foxworth.
In addition to Gaston, Katie’s Prom has plans in the works for both live and silent auctions, heavy hors d’oeuvres and libations. Tickets to Katie’s Prom, $150 per person or $250 per couple, are still available and can be purchased online at www.katiesproject.org or by calling 843-282-0454.
Katie’s Project was established to help ensure prom is a reality for all students, more that just supplying a prom dress or tuxedo, we are providing confidence and instilling the value of goodwill and community service in each student.
Prom is becoming an increasingly expensive event and in today’s economic climate, parents and students are finding it harder and harder to afford the one night that has become a milestone of adolescent life. In 2007, Katie Rhoden, a St. James High School student launched a dress bank, collecting and providing formal dresses to high school girls in need of a little help to get to prom.
What started as a simple school project sparked an outpouring of community support. When Kathy Foxworth, of LITUS* Properties, learned of Katie’s Project she was so moved by Katie’s efforts that she not only donated many of her own formal dresses, but was determined to keep the project alive by creating a charitable organization which would accept donations year round. Under the direction and support of Kathy, Katie’s Project now functions as a non-profit organization that provides students with formal wear and accessories.
After learning of Katie’s ProjectSM, Kathy Foxworth of LITUS* Properties, realized she was in a unique position to make a positive difference in the lives of young women. She donated over twenty formal dresses from her personal collection and was determined to ensure the project’s success. Working with Katie, she created a charitable organization that would now function year-round…Katie’s dream of providing for students in need was kept alive by the efforts of Kathy.
