MYRTLE BEACH - A new book is in stores now featuring one of South Carolina's most notorious and racially-charged murder trials.
The author of Dead Weight is Batt Humphreys, of Charleston.
Humphreys draws from actual court testimony and real events to give a vivid picture of a city caught between the realities of the current time and a dying culture of the past.
Humphreys worked for 15 years as a senior producer for CBS News in New York before returning home to the South. He has covered a number of landmark events, including the morning of September 11, 2001.
