Francis Marion University will present the work of painter Patti Brady and potters Rosa and Winton Eugene on Tuesday at Hyman Fine Arts Center.

Patti Brady’s paintings and prints have been exhibited nationally and reviewed by the New York Times. She has developed curriculum for acrylic classes for artists and art educators. She has trained and manages 42 national and international artists for the Golden Working Artist Program in the U.S., Canada, Korea, France, Austria, Spain, Mexico and the Netherlands. In 2004 and 2006, she traveled to Japan for Golden Artist Colors to lecture at universities in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.

“I am continually fascinated by the materiality of paint, the thickness, the texture, the drip, the transparency, the overlap, the overlay and evocative color,” said Brady, discussing her work.

“The contrast between the actual materiality of paint, thick and textural, drips, mistakes, stains, happenstance, juxtaposed with a more controlled painterly drawing process are intriguing to me.”

Also featured at the exhibit will be potters Rosa and Winton Eugene of Cowpens.

This husband and wife team creates their own unique brand of hand-painted and relief carved functional stoneware.

Their work commonly features African-American motifs that relate to their own memories and experiences in South Carolina. The Eugene’s are primarily self-taught artists, and in recent years their work has received much renown for its individuality and sense of history.

Winton began making pottery in 1986 as a hobby to fill his time. Within months, the couple had a garage full of pottery. After successfully selling many pieces at a local art show and sale, they decided to pursue pottery full time.
