BoJangles has hoisted its signs and planted its shrubs at the company’s newest location - Lake City – and about 40 new employees began their training Tuesday, Feb. 14, at various other locations across Florence.
The store is the eleventh owned by David Maisel in the Florence area and is scheduled to open around the beginning of March.
Maisel decided to build a store in Lake City as he has been surveying the area for several years and felt that Lake City is a good fit for his company. He said Lake City is “one of the few cities in the Pee Dee area, and definitely in the county, that is still growing, so we think it’s an excellent opportunity for us.”
Maisel also said that his other locations around Florence have “been serving people for years from Lake City.”
Two such Lake City customers, Sonny Stewart and Cliff Lee, were visiting one of those other locations Wednesday, Feb. 15, where several of the new employees were learning their duties and the secrets behind the BoJangles’ biscuits.
“Our biscuits are the best in the market,” said Maisel, “They can’t be beat by anybody.”
Angel Lay and Terrance Daniels are two of the Lake City employees learning those secrets. Lay said she was excited about her new job and said she had “always wanted to learn how to make homemade biscuits and now [she had] the opportunity.”
The opening of the store and other businesses in Lake City is giving the residents more job opportunities and that is helping keep residents in the town.
“It’s my first chance at work since 2009,” Lay, who has lived in Lake City all her life, said.
Lay said she “had thought about leaving Lake City because of lack of jobs,” and is excited because getting a job at the new BoJangles means she can stay in her hometown and can raise her child where she grew up.
Maisel said the new location will start with about 55 people on the schedule though the number of employees will fluctuate some over time.
