Members of the Greater Lake City Chamber of Commerce gathered on Main Street Thursday, Feb. 3, for another ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening. The opening of Bella’s Salon at 146 West Main Street is the fourth business in one week to hold such celebrations in the downtown area and the third to join the chamber.
Jessica Dubose, the business owner, said finally opening the doors is “a dream come true.”
The 26-year-old is from Lake City and purchased the building three years ago. She said the interior had just three intact walls and has spent the time since then renovating the space.
Dubose hopes that “every woman in the community can come together,” at her salon.
“I’m looking forward to developing a relationship with the people in the community,” she said.
Walk-ins are welcome at the salon which employs three stylists and massage therapist and will also offer manicures, pedicures and tanning in the future.
Greg Moore, chamber president, said the up-scale salon will be an asset to the community and is the “type of business that will attract both locals and tourists” in Lake City.
The chamber also held a ribbon cutting Saturday, Jan. 28, for new Lake City Housing Authority units on Augustine Street.
The energy efficient units include a new product to keep energy costs low for the residents. Moore explained that the “heating elements in the water heater runs off the energy that’s transferred by the heat pump.”
Moore said the heat pumps that move heat into and out off a home also generate heat as they work. That heat “is normally wasted,” said Moore. “The water heater is utilizing that energy and it’s a tremendous savings in their electric bill.”
The 18 units also have new safety features designed to minimize fire risks such as maximum temperature limits that stove top burners can reach.
