Inteva Products has announced plans to close its plant in Mullins later this year, putting 42 people out of work.
Inteva Global Communications Director Kimberly Welch said Wednesday company officials notified employees last week that the company will shift production at the plant this fall to another facility located in Gadsden, Ala. That plant was sold to Inteva in 2008 by Delphi, as spinoff of General Motors that went bankrupt in 2005.
An exact date for closing the plant has not been determined, Welch said.
Based in Troy, Mich., Inteva Products has 8,000 employees with 42 operational units worldwide.
The Mullins plant is located at 301 S. Cypress St. It manufactures motors and regulators for power windows on vehicles.
Inteva purchased the operation from ArvinMeritor in August. The plant was part of ArvinMeritor Body Systems business and is located in the former home of Anvil Knitwear. Both ArvinMeritor and Anvil had been amount Marion County’s top employers.
Marion County has the state’s highest unemployment rate at 18.9 percent, according to the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce.
Welch said Inteva is working with the employees in Mullins to assist them in finding positions at either one of its other locations, or elsewhere in the community.
