MYRTLE BEACH – The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is honoring its first Business of Excellence, Mercom Corporation, an information technology business. Those wishing to learn more about Mercom and its award-winning business practices are invited to a complimentary breakfast starting at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, March 11, at the MBACC. The breakfast is open to the public, but registration is required. Register at MyrtleBeachAreaChamber.com.
Owner Stella Mercado started Mercom Corporation with her brothers Larry and Allan, beginning operations in 2002. The business has since established a reputation as a federal government contractor providing networking and other technical services. Based in Pawleys Island, with a federal sales office in Falls Church, Va., Mercom has also worked with state government and private businesses and has set up wireless networks, video conferencing and electronic record-keeping systems.
Last year Mercom’s business grew by 15 percent. Over the last three years, the company expanded from 12 employees to 56 in two offices and is expected to reach 100 employees by the end of the year. In 2008 Mercom won eight business awards for growth.
The recognition program promotes the advancement of responsible business leadership in the community and publicly recognizes local businesses demonstrating a passion for excellence. MBACC will honor local member businesses in February, May, August and November for being a Business of Excellence.
Each Business of Excellence will be entitled to a half-page article in the Horry County Business Journal, e-mail blast to MBACC members to promote the business, news release recognizing the business, complimentary breakfast to publicize the business and nomination for the MBACC’s annual Chairman’s Choice award.
