MARION — Marion Regional Healthcare System CEO Don Lloyd will be recognized for being a pioneer of the REACH Stroke Network by Candy Carter, vice president of corporate relations of the Mid-Atlantic Affiliate of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association on Thursday at Marion County Medical Center.
The REACH Stroke Network, a statewide initiative led by the Medical University of South Carolina and funded in part by Health Sciences South Carolina, is using telemedicine to provide small and rural hospitals with constant access to the stroke experts at MUSC. REACH stands for remote evaluation of acute ischemic stroke.
REACH MUSC partners are Marion Regional Health System, McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree, Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Grand Strand Regional Medical Center and Waccamaw Community Hospital. These six hospitals being honored are pioneers in the outreach program.
