Northeastern Technical College Director of Institutional Advancement Atticus Simpson of Cheraw recently earned the graduate certificate in higher education leadership from The University of South Carolina. The certificate is an academic credential approved by the S.C. Commission on Higher Education and sponsored by the S.C. Technical College System to advance the knowledge and competencies of professionals in the South Carolina technical college sector.
The certificate is a two-year, six-semester program which requires participants to take classes in the areas of higher education finance, assessment, teaching, legal affairs and leadership. Simpson was specifically selected by Northeastern Tech administrators to participate in the certificate program and started taking classes in January 2008.
Simpson, who has been with the college since June 2005, received his certificate Dec. 4 in Columbia where he was selected by classmates to serve as a speaker during the graduation ceremony. Five other Northeastern Tech employees at have completed the program: Cathy Pelfrey of Cheraw, Melisa Johnson of Chesterfield, Leron Peterkin of Bennettsville, Diane Dyches of Patrick and Dr. Forest Mahan of Cheraw.
