The Good Living Marketplace in Hartsville will celebrate its first anniversary 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Oct. 3.
The brainchild of the Hartsville Downtown Development Association and the City of Hartsville, the marketplace began as a modest effort to offer a venue for local shops, farms and artisans. It has grown in to a community-wide gathering place and a center for information on local activities in addition to its original goal.
“We are so pleased with the way in which the community has received the Good Living Marketplace in the last year,” said Judi Elvington, director of the Hartsville Downtown Association.
“The Good Living Marketplace has grown from just 30 vendors in October of 2009 to an anticipated 69 vendors for our first anniversary. We invite everyone to join us this Saturday for music and birthday cake at Cargill Way.”
Volunteer Coordinator Nancy Meyers commented: “We are very pleased with the way this project has been there to support new businesses and nonprofit organizations. We have established an area where stay-at-home moms can sell their hobby to assist in their family income and have given non-profit organizations the opportunity to bring awareness to the community. Groups such as Darlington County Humane Society and The Juvenile Arthritis Foundation have gained valuable support and visibility through participation at the Good Living Marketplace.”
The Florence Jazz Messengers will provide the entertainment and “Birthday Cake” will be served at 11 a.m.
This month’s market will also feature fresh fall produce from local farmers, handcrafted jewelry and ceramics, flowers, plants and a wide variety of food and drink.
