Stoney, Rogers receive Coker College awards

Gertrude Stoney of Camden received the Student Academic and Leadership Award and Sylvia Rogers of Marion was recognized as the Field Instructor of the Year by Coker College’s Department of Social Work during its 10th annual conference.

Stoney is a senior social work major at Coker College. She is a Child Welfare Scholar conducting an internship with the S.C. Department of Social Services (DSS) in Darlington County. She also is president of the Coker College Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society, and secretary of the college’s Social Work Student Association.

Rogers is a social worker for the Marion County office of the state Department of Social Services. Among her responsibilities is the supervision of Coker College senior Sara Gerrald of Mullins, who is interning at Marion County DSS as a child welfare scholar.
