Florence School District 1 food service staff members received many awards at the recent 56th Annual State Conference of the School Nutrition Association in Greenville.
In the competitive area, first place winners include Williams Middle School’s Hattie Mitchell in the cookie division; Florence 1’s Melva Wilson, apron division; Wilson High School’s Francis Washington, school logo division; and Lester Elementary Schools’s Roselyn Green, breakfast tray division. Mitchell also earned the first place award in the state-wide weight loss competition.
In various categories, several staff members received one or more certificates of recognition: Savannah Grove Elementary Schools’s Elizabeth Hudson, Sheila Fields and Melba Starr; Lester’s Renita Melton and Ethel Davis; Carver Elementary School’s Jean Addison and Retha McCutcheon; McLaurin Elementary School’s Rosa King; Briggs Elementary School’s Nancy Wells; and Hattie Mitchell and Melva Wilson.
Schools with 100 percent memberships in the association are Carver, Lester, McLaurin, Southside Middle School, South Florence High School, Savannah Grove and Wallace-Gregg Elementary School. Schools with 100 percent certification include Lester, McLaurin and South Florence.
Wallace-Gregg Elementary and its school nutrition team also are featured in the November 2009 issue of the School Nutrition magazine, a national publication published by the School Nutrition Association, for their participation in National School Breakfast Week.
