FLORENCEJeannette C. Glenn, McLeod Vice President for Human Resources, Education and Training, recently was awarded the 2009-2010 Executive of the Year Award by the Florence Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals.

In recognition for her outstanding contributions on the job and in the community, Glenn was selected from a group of 25 local executive applicants. Criteria for the award included setting a vision and inspiring others to follow; demonstrating a commitment to diversity and inclusion; holding self and others accountable, and providing a safe work environment.

Gwen Gattison, the chapter’s teasurer and Glenn’s executive secretary, nominated Glenn for the award.

Jeannette is a great mentor and role model for women in business,” Gattison said. “She has high expectations for her employees as she leads by example. Her spirit of giving goes beyond herself to meet the needs of others.

“She believes every person can be successful and takes great pride in motivating her employees and co-workers,” she said. “You can find her sitting behind the desk of her corner office or down in the trenches working along beside the next person to get the job done.”

Glenn began her career with McLeod in 1972 as a staff nurse working in the surgical unit, critical care unit and as the emergency room as charge nurse. She since has worked in many other capacities including head nurse, surgical clinical coordinator, director of staff development and now as vice president.

Glenn’s educational background includes a diploma in nursing from the Kate Butting Reynolds Memorial School of Nursing in Winston-Salem, N.C.; a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of South Carolina in Columbia; a Master of Sciencein nursing administration from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston; post graduate studies at Francis Marion University in Florence and management studies at Harvard University Graduate School of Business.

She has received many awards for her community affiliations, including the Elizabeth Pettigrew Durant Children’s Center, the United Way of Florence County, the S.C. Hospital Association Society, Pee Dee AHEC, Alpha Xi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, Health Facilities Federal Credit Union, the Florence Career and Technology Education Advisory Committee, Florence Education and Business Alliance and more.

Her professional memberships include the American Nurses Association, S.C. Hospital Association Society of Educators, American Hospital Association Society of Health Educators and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Glenn, a widow, has two daughters and three grandsons and is very active in her church, Trinity Baptist Church in Florence. She sponsors a health fair for the community through her church each year.
