FSA committee elections under way in Florence County

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Roselyn J. Quick, executive director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency in Florence County, announced that FSA county committee elections have started as ballots are being mailed to eligible voters.

Eligible voters must return ballots to the local office by Dec. 7.

Committee members apply their knowledge and judgment to make decisions on disaster and conservation payments, establishment of allotments and yields, producer appeals, employing FSA county executive directors and other local issues. FSA committees operate within official regulations designed to carry out federal laws.

To be an eligible voter, farmers and ranchers must participate or cooperated in FSA programs. A person who is not of legal voting age, but supervises and conducts the farming operations of an entire farm, can vote. Agricultural producers in each county submitted candidate names during the nomination period last summer.
