Sylvia Causey, a laboratory information systems applications coordinator at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence, has received the Exceptional Pillar Award from American Medical Technologists (AMT).
The award was presented to Causey in recognition of her outstanding activity and service to AMT and its members at both the state and national levels. Award recipients are nominated by the state society and selected by AMT’s Board of Directors.
Causey, who received her AMT Medical Technologist certification in 1963, serves as the AMT South Carolina State Society secretary and served as treasurer from 1987 to the present and as the Journal Editor from 1964 to 1970. In addition, she received the State Society Distinguished Service Award in 1992 and served on the AMT Membership, Public Relations and Credentials Committees in the past.
Causey has been employed at Carolinas Hospital System since 1983. A native of Horry County, she and her husband Ken have been married for 42 years and have lived in Florence since 1970. They have two children, Julie and Kenny, and are the grandparents of Natalie, Causey and Caden.
