Pee Dee Electric Cooperative and other co-ops in South Carolina have given away 1.2 million energy efficient compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) this year as part of the “Do the Light Switch” campaign.
In the first phase of this multi-year program, each household served by Pee Dee Electric Cooperative received two free CFLs in the mail. The statewide distribution began in April and continued through July.
Additionally this year, each member of Pee Dee Electric will receive a free CFL for registering at the co-op’s annual meeting Oct. 25. Pee Dee Electric also has joined other co-ops in donating 4,300 CFLs to the S.C. State Park system.
The electric cooperatives launched the “Do the Light Switch” program this year as a result of an independent study, which showed the No. 1 measure residents could take to curb energy use was to replace standard lighting with energy efficient lighting.
