Direct Air announces additional service to Myrtle Beach

»  Comments | Post a Comment

MYRTLE BEACHDirect Air Friday announced the start of new air service, beginning early March 2009, from Kalamazoo, Mich.; Toledo, Ohio; Rockford, Ill.; and Worcester, Mass. Direct Air has been working with the airport authorities and community organizations since summer 2008 to provide air service from these four new markets into Myrtle Beach.

Direct Air offered its popular annual Family Ties sale earlier this fall, with inventory selling out quickly.

To celebrate today’s announcement, Direct Air will offer the Family Ties program in all cities serviced by Direct Air.

This unique program was created to allow family and friends to spend more time together. By offering special, nearly half-price certificates for $140 round-trip, residents are allowed to purchase as many as 20 Family Ties certificates without specifying passengers’ names or dates at time of purchase.

The certificates make excellent gifts or can be used by the purchaser.

Certificates can be used between any city pairs serviced by Direct Air. Space is based on availability at time of booking.

Direct Air also announced winter service from Niagara Falls, N.Y. and Plattsburgh, N.Y. into Myrtle Beach and continued nonstop service to Punta Gorda, Fla., which is within close proximity to Fort Myers, Sarasota, and Naples, every Friday, Saturday and Monday.

This schedule allows Myrtle Beach residents looking for weekend getaways a new opportunity to travel for less.

Recently, Direct Air announced new nonstop service from Kalamazoo, Toledo, Rockford and Worcester to Florida beginning late Nov. 2008, as well as nonstop service to Myrtle Beach from Allentown, Pa. beginning in March 2009.

“These communities have been anxious and waiting for this announcement of nonstop service to Myrtle Beach since we first announced service to Florida,” said Ed Warneck, president of Direct Air.

“Passengers today prefer the secondary airports to avoid the stress, long lines and excessive parking fees of major airports,” said Judy Tull, CEO of Direct Air. “They want to get off the planes and out of the terminal as quickly as possible. With the exception of Newark and Pittsburgh, we use and seek out secondary airports that are underserved.”

Flight certificates must be used before October 31, 2009 and are useable in any of the cities currently served by Direct Air. Family Ties certificates will be available for purchase online at www.visitdirectair.com beginning Monday, November 14 through Friday, November 21.

“We try our best to provide schedules that will appeal to our travelers. It’s not always easy, but I think our passengers will be pleased with our schedule. It allows for three days of golf or beach before returning back home. They always have the option of staying longer, which many will,” said Tull.
