New Millennium Building Systems plant in Florence laid off 13 employees Friday in an effort to restructure, company officials said.
Bert Hollman, president of the company, said the jobs cut were mostly office workers.
“There was a restructure of our businesses unit (in Florence) and we eliminated some of the office jobs,” he said. “But we don’t have any plans to close.”
Attempts to reach the Florence office were unsuccessful. Hollman said the reason for that was likely a temporary measure to circumvent phone calls while the staffers dealt with the layoffs.
“As you can well understand it’s an emotional time for some of those people,” he said.
