Sawyer is 'secret weapon' for businesses

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The everyday details of operating a business are countless. If only there was a secret weapon to assist business owners and human resource managers with staffing services. Jessica Sawyer, the newly appointed business service representative (BSR) for the Marion County One Stop is that new secret weapon!

For those of whom she has met and worked with, she said she appreciates the kind reception and assistance she has received. To those whom she has not yet had the opportunity to visit, she said in a press release that she looks forward to meeting you soon.

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program at 1305 North Main Street offers professional business services that can make life simpler for employers. All available business services are coordinated by the Pee Dee Workforce Investment Board’s (WIB) Business Service Representative at the One Stop.

The Pee Dee WIB is a volunteer group of citizens from business, labor, education and community organizations dedicated to creating a world-class workforce development system throughout the Pee Dee region.

As the business service representative, it is Sawyer’s responsibility to assist people with their staffing needs.

“Our programs are tailored to meet the needs of employers by assisting you in recruiting, referring, and screening new employees.

“We offer on-the-job training (OJT) to help you train new employees the way YOU would like them trained. OJT allows employers to hire and systematically train new employees for a specified period of time while receiving reimbursement for a respectable portion of their hourly wage,” she said, adding “We also offer a variety of other services.” Such as job registration and application pre-screening. Employers  list openings with her. As the business service representative, she accepts and reviews applications based upon specifications identified. She then forwards qualified candidates for interviews.

Facilities sharing: Do you need a quiet, professional place to interview applicants? As a value added service, you can utilize our conference room, she said.

WorkKeys: An internationally recognized employment system that helps to cut the cost of recruiting, selecting, hiring, and training new employees. Sawyer said “Let us profile your positions and determine that ‘exact’ workplace skills that employees need to be successful on the job and determine where additional training is needed to build a high performance workforce.”

Computer-based training:  The One-Stop is equipped with a computer lab that is open to the public and equipped with Internet access and software to assist employees in upgrading basic reading, math, and other workplace skills.

Call Sawyer at (843) 423-8288 ext. 115, with any questions, concerning the WIA program.
